Inspired by the formal rigidity of the Bauhaus Movement, the ground up design of the Kingsley Residence was inspired by Walter Gropius and Adolf Meyer’s 1910 Fagus Factory. With its emphasis on the rational ordering of components and modularity, the house’s minimalist logic reflects the residents’ exacting standards and attention to detail. Sharp white walls and polished concrete floors outfit the open first floor living space and are complemented by warm wood and handmade tile. Throughout the space, the primary colors favored by the Bauhaus are introduced in more muted tones through tile and textiles, softening the stark shell of the interior.  

The kitchen features a generous center island and is surrounded by full height walnut stained millwork with timeless integrated pulls and elegant proportions. A dark porcelain countertop and backsplash wrap the sink area and are capped off by a display ledge and wood paneling. The kitchen flows seamlessly into a living and dining room that feature statement furniture and lighting pieces alongside millwork and open wall space that showcases the residents’ art collection.  

Both floors of the residence center around a stunning double height volume that is clad entirely in Heath Ceramics tile in a muted burnished red reminiscent of historic terracotta silos.  The custom metal work at the lower-level living room fireplace gives way to a bespoke metal and oak stair railing that leads to the second floor with its panoramic views of the city and sprawling patio. Opposite the patio, a wall of millwork sits under a series of clerestory windows and showcases the residents’ collection of baseball hats from stadiums around the country.
