This beautifully restored home, located in Detroit’s historic Corktown neighborhood, retains a sense of place and time, even though the original house was stripped down to the studs and completely built out. Design goal: honor the historic charm while reflecting the owner’s modern sensibilities.
Clean white walls, eclectic art and mid-century furnishings exist comfortably beside historic elements like the scene-stealing entry with original, untouched staircase and base molding, peeling paint and all.
In addition to an updated main living space, the remodel includes the modern conveniences of a powder room and laundry off the kitchen, and upstairs, a home office, master bedroom and bathroom, all contributing to a seamless dialogue between old and new.
