The design intention behind this project was to create a fun yet sophisticated spin on a cherished American tradition. The mid-century building housing Bowlero Lanes and Lounge has functioned as a bowling alley since 1957, but it was groovy photos from the 70s that inspired the new design.
Several key pre-existing design moments — yes to orange horizontal channel booths and creamsicle-colored lockers! — are paramount to the aesthetic. We incorporated vintage décor and furnishings collected by the owner alongside a vibrant palette of orange, red, and blue.
The bar is clad in metallic wallpaper with graphic patterns, creating a luxe retro vibe. Supergraphics make a showstopping appearance, particularly a dramatic stripe that wraps the bowling area and encircles the newly punched, pill-shaped windows, which offer views from the bar into the lanes.
