When Axle Brewing Company opened their taproom and restaurant, Livernois Tap, they came to us with the exciting concept: a modern interpretation of the traditional European beer hall as a neighborhood gathering place. We transformed an old, dark diamond drill shop into a light, bright hall with soaring ceilings and handpainted murals created by local artists — a European beer hall reimagined for Michigan.
The gleaming space features 11-feet-high glass doors that open onto a large, tree-lined brick and gravel Biergarten with lamp posts, traditional Biergarten tables and benches, and a central firepit.
The interior features an eclectic take on traditional European details, including dual-arm globe lights hanging between bright blue trusses, industrial Pollard Bros. benches with backs upholstered in plaid, and cafe tables crafted from metal instead of topped with marble — a nod to their Motor City roots.
